Although introduced yesterday as a “new” keyword tool, Google’s new tool seems little more than a filter they could easily have had from the beginning.

Seen today in Barry Schwartz’s SearchEngineLand post, the tool suggests keywords based on your web site’s content and comparing that content to its database of posts.
Sound a bit like the old keyword tool? So far, nothing seems different. However, the big news appears to be the fact that “If you are logged in, it will show you only the keywords that you are currently not advertising for.” Wow. Beyond the obvious up-sell for Google, this seems like a filter that should have been available all along so that I don’t have to wade through a long list of possible matches and remember to leave unchecked all those words I’m already buying.
Maybe instead of “new”, this one should have just been called “improved.”
